Yemenis condemn US support of regime
BFnews: Tens of thousands of Yemeni worshipers gathered in Sanaa for Friday prayers, demanding that Saleh be tried for ordering the killing of hundreds of protesters, AFP reported.

Saleh's forces have stepped up attacks on protesters over the past three weeks, killing almost a hundred people.

The protesters say the US is trying to save Saleh's regime.

Meanwhile, UN envoy Jamal bin Omar flew to Yemen last Thursday to follow up on a UN Security Council resolution adopted last month, which demanded that Saleh immediately sign a deal to step down.

However, the 69-year-old Saleh has repeatedly refused to sign the deal brokered by the (Persian) Gulf Cooperation Council ([P]GCC), according to which he would hand over power to Vice President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi in return for immunity from prosecution.

Hundreds of thousands of people have turned out for regular demonstrations in Yemen's major cities since January, calling for an end to corruption and unemployment and demanding the ouster of Ali Abdullah Saleh, who took office in 1978.
